Melbourne, Australia
Day 8 at the 2008 Australian Open wasn't exactly an exciting one, rather it was pretty dull with all the expected winners, moving through to the Quarter-Finals and moving one step closer to the championship match.
Ana Ivanovic started on Rod Laver Arena, facing off against Caroline Wozniacki of Poland. Ivanovic who is a heavy favorite in the match didn't disappoint as she dispatched the young Polish girl with a 6-1, 7-6 scoreline.
Venus Williams was next on court taking on Marta Domachowska, also of Poland and didn't have many problems with her. Venus played well, though she was broken a couple of times but still managed to win the match with a 6-4, 6-4 scoreline. Williams vs. Ivanovic is an anticipated Quarter-Finals match.
The only other noticeable name that was playing on this day was Daniela Hantuchova who was facing off against Maria Kirilenko. The match started in Kirilenko's favor as she got off to a great start. However, Hantuchova calmed down and played her game which was enough to get through and win the match 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Day 9 will feature two mouth watering encounters, the Quarter-Finals matches between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic as well as Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova. Day 9 should have some good tennis.
