Day 7 at the 2008 Australian Open!

Day 7 of the Australian Open kicked off and everyone knows what that means. Round of 16 action for one half of the women's tour and also the halfway point here at the years first Grand Slam.

Serena Williams, the defending Champion had a tough Round of 16 opponent, probably the toughest out of everyone. It was Nicole Vaidasova who stood in her way to getting to the final 8 down in Melbourne. Everyone was expecting a tough match, but Serena decided otherwise and used her many weapons to dispatch Vaidasova easily, 6-3, 6-4. Serena is now in the Quarter-Finals once again.

At night, Jelena Jankovic was facing off against Casey Dellacqua who had upset Amelie Mauresmo a few days prior. The match was back and forth in the first set with the Australian having chances to take the lead, but Jankovic had none of that and took out Australia's last female hope, 7-6, 6-1. She now goes on to face Serena Williams.

Justine Henin had the easiest of the Round of 16 draw when she faced off against Su-Wei Hsieh. The match as anyone would have thought did not last very long and Henin marched along with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Maria Sharapova was having to face off against Elena Dementieva, and though many didn't expect a tough match, they would of expected better than the drubbing that was handed out. Maria Sharapova destroyed Elena Dementieva, 6-2, 6-0. Sharapova and Henin now face in the Quarter-Finals.

Day 8 is tomorrow with the rest of the women trying to get to the Quarter-Finals. Women such as Venus Williams who hasn't been there since 2003, Daniela Hantuchova, Maria Kirilenko and more.
