The Serbians Continue Marching On!

Today the first half of the Round of 16 matches kicked off, with Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic both trying to step closer to a Semi-Final meeting that is expected between the two. Now with both Williams sisters gone from the tournament, the two Serbians would not have to worry about facing them in the Quarter-Finals.

Ana Ivanovic made a strong statement today in her match against Petra Cetkovska. The match was quick, painful and ended without much of a fight from Cetkovska. Ivanovic played a stellar match with just about everything going her way. Using her power and timing to perfection, Ivanovic completely blew Cetkovska out of the tournament with an easy and emphatic, 6-0, 6-0 scoreline.

Jelena Jankovic had a slightly tougher time in her match against Agnieszka Radwanska. The young Polish girl is definitely a threat and plays well, so Jankovic was made to work in her match. The first set was routine with a 6-3 victory, which Jankovic fought hard to win. The second set was tougher, leading to a tiebreak as Jankovic showed off her defensive skills and won with a 7-6(3) second set scoreline.

In other action, Patty Schnyder slowly continued moving on deeper into the tournament, making the Quarter-Finals with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Katarina Srebotnik, who had defeated Serena Williams in the previous round. Schnyder will have to bring her clay loving game in all its force when she goes up against Ana Ivanovic in the next round. And for the last match featured today, a Qualifier has made it to the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros. Carla Suarez Navarro defeated Flavia Pennetta, 6-3, 6-2 to advance and will face off against Jelena Jankovic.

Tomorrow the rest of the Round of 16 matches take place featuring, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Maria Sharapova and Dinara Safina.
